Building Defects and PSI in Property Transactions
This two-hour course equips real estate professionals to recognise visible building concerns, understand the PSI context, communicate information accurately and arrange suitable professional referral. It adapts the supplied Building Defects and PSI proposal to the architectural course lesson-plan structure. Three formative case studies support a 15-question individual assessment. Technical inspection and certification remain the work of appropriately qualified professionals.
Learning outcome
LO 1: Explain the basic purpose of PSI and the respective roles of building owners, MCSTs, Structural Engineers and RESs.
LO 2: Identify common visible building defects and warning signs that may be encountered during property viewings.
LO 3: Apply appropriate communication, documentation and due-diligence practices when building-condition issues arise in a property transaction.
LO 4: Recognise the limits of an RES’s role and identify situations that should be referred to a qualified building or engineering professional.
